I’ve been coming here for a while now to get my haircut. While It’s a little on the expensive side and I need to make my appointment a few weeks out, the haircut is worth it. Too many places like to give me a buzz cut but they really take their time. The shampoo is an experience all on its own because the girls here really know how to give a head massage. They have great products, too and they’re not pushy about selling them.

I always have been a big fan of ""best of citysearch"" places, so I went into Timothy's thinking it will be a great experience. It turned out not to be so. I did promptly got seated, however I was assigned to an intern/volunteer someone ( whose name is not there on the website), who at the very look of it seemed very nervous. However it was my first visit so I said ok it's going to get better. It did not! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she started out cutting my hair. I went from medium hair to short hair and told her that I wanted an angular layered bob. However the end result wasn't that great, she tried telling me it will keep getting better but the way she held and cut my hair was very very amateurish. Yah I would expect such a cut from some no name salon but not from a best of city search salon...I did not make much fuss about it. However if you really want your customers to visit next time why would you not give her the best possible person to cut hair. All I can say I am not happy:( laicale and yann varin which were previous winners made me much much happier after my haircut....will never go back to Timothy johns for sure...

Got my hair cut here for an event, and I could not be more happy. I was complimented the entire night I was out. I was even mistaken for a few celebritities!!! I fit right in with the crowd at this ""A-list"" event and my confidence was sky high.
I got the full treatment..cut, color, blow dry, and style. It was exactly the way I wanted it and well worth every dollar spent.
Needless to say, I will be coming here every time I want to look like a movie star!

After reading the reviews on citysearch I decided to give Timothy Johns a go for a color & cut as I had moved abode & was no longer near the salon that I had attended for years (Butterfly Studio which I totally adored).
It had been 9 weeks since my last color so I brought a picture of myself & the color that I wished to achieve. Rosemary who was extremely pleasant showed me a sample in a color book that looked nice, I asked her if it would be similar to the color of my hair in the picture and she said yes.
When she started to color I informed her that the color took to my hair length very quickly and did not need to be left in for very long. She left the color on my roots for 20 mins & then pulled it through the length for 20 mins. My previous colorist pulled it through the length for 5 min. When she washed my hair out I asked her if she was putting gloss on, she informed me that the color left a gloss & if I wanted a gloss I would have to pay extra for it but that she did not think I needed it. In all the years I attended butterfly studio they had always left a gloss in for 5 minutes after a color which made my hair look amazing. The end result my hair was nearly black it was so dark.
I then had a haircut with Timothy, I showed him the picture I had brought & asked him for big waves when blow drying. He was extremely unfriendly & informed me that he would not be able to blow dry with big waves that he would have to blow dry it straight to see the cut.
I informed him I did not like my hair straight at which point he got very angry. I had been attending my previous stylist for many years & have never been informed that they had to blow dry my hair straight. He spent about 15 minutes cutting my hair and after blow drying my hair was frizzy & neither straight nor wavy.
He never asked me if I liked the cut yet I think he told tell by my face I was not happy & he did not wish to accomodate me any longer since he had another customer waiting. Since I avoid confrontation at all costs I got up from the chair & went to pay.
When I had called the salon to ask for an appointment they had told me that it was $90 with Rosemary for a single process for my shoulder length hair. They charged me $130.
Needless to say I will not be returning to Timothy Johns & I also question the excellent reviews on this website.

So after reading all the great reviews I thought I would give the salon a try. Had a 5pm appointment for a one step color and cut. Having no idea exactly what I wanted.
The receptionist is a doll. Rosemary was my stylest.
She took a look at my dreadfull hair and asked Timothy for a consult. My hair was several shades of blonde from self coloring, dry and long.
Instead of a one color process I got 3! Color, hilights and gloss. The color came out darker then I expected, but it looks fabulous! I love it!!
Then came the cut, I told Rosemary, please don't cut it too short, but other then that go to town. Well the cut came out spectacular!
They stayed late to finish with me, a second stylest helped out with blowing my hair (because I have a lot of it)
Everyone was nice and friendly.
I will definatly go back and recommmend to my friends and co workers.
Side note, as I was crossing 11th ave this morning, a bus driver waved for me to go before he turned. As I made it passed his window, I thanked him. He said, your welcome, I enjoyed the view! LOL
Thank you Rosemary!
I have been looking for a salon for a long time and I found the BEST!
I have been going to Timothy John's for a long time and I am always looking forward to get my hair done. I found the salon here on City Search after I had a bad dye job from another place. My hair was a wreck when I walked in the salon I had at least 6 different colors on my head.
As I walked in I was greeted with a smile by the lovely receptionist. The salon was very busy at the time and I had booked for a single process to fix my hair. Little did I know that I was a color correction!, Timothy looked at my hair with one of the junior stylist and said it can be fixed up to 90% and will get better over time. I told him I wanted to be a natural looking blonde. He was right I think it was 1000% better!!
As time progressed my friends have noticed how healthy my hair is and I get complements everywhere I go. I've never had long hair until I started coming here. I think I may have been spoiled by this salon because I can't see myself going anywhere else and expect the same treatment and have excellent hair at the same time. You guys have saved my hair and gave me confidence, hair is very important! If you haven't tried Timothy John's you are missing out! I love the staff here. Cant wait for my next visit!
Oh My God this place is awesome! I have had my hair done by many different places and people over the years and I have always been, for the most part satisfied. Until this last weekend when I was for the first time actually speechless. I'm talking jaw to the floor blown away by my hair cut. I never know how much you could do with a simple cut and color. They really know what they are doing over there at Timothy John's. My stylist was fast, attentive, friendly and a true proffesional! This is by far the best place in town!
P.S. ask for Elena
My hair stylist in the east village moved back to Chicago and I needed to find a new place. A friend who lives in Hells Kitchen gave me a referral card for Timothy Johns Salon. I went in for a highlight and trim. My Stylist was Emily. I was very pleased with her work and will continue to go back. Great Salon.
I get my hair done A LOT! My father is a haistylist and I've only ever had him do my hair. As a recent transplant to NYC, I didn't know who or where to go to. I'd been doing my hair by myself for a while and it looked okay, but when I came across Timothy John's one day, I was imidiately comfortable with all of the stylists and the Atmosphere.
They're extremely professional and friendly beyond belief and it just feels so wonderful to be able to find a place where the people actually treat you like you belong.
Basically my hair looks amazing.
My hair is naturally really, really dark; so dark that people think I dye it black. They made me a platinum blonde and gave me a beautiful super cropped pixie look and I adore it! I can never get enough compliments on it! I'm so grateful to have found Timothy and everyone else that works here. They all helped to achieve the look I wanted and they most diefinitely succeeded!
This salon is perfect! I love the stylists and the receptionist is adorable. I had a cut and blow and it is fabulous! Everyone keeps complimenting me and I just wanted to share with everyone that this is the kind of place that you keep going back to.
I adored the service! Everyone was friendly and and I wasn't even there for too long. The salon is fairly priced and it is very enjoyable.
It is located in a wondeful area, the heart of Hell's Kitchen! You can go get your hair done and go out with your friends afterwards.
I strongly recommend Timothy John's Salon to everyone who loves a wonderful haircut and lovely service.
I have been a loyal Timothy John's Salon client for about 2 years and I have to say....Its pretty cool! I have my color done every 6 weeks and usually have my hair cut every other time. I am one of those women who have a lot....and I mean a LOT of grey. I also like to have highlights as well. I used to go to a salon that would have me do highlights every time. At Timothy John's they put me on a healthier regimen that included highlights every third visit. My hair is a lot healthier, and my wallet is thrilled too! You dont get honesty like that in NYC...and thats also....pretty cool! I have seen several stylists, and they all are amazing. It is a warm inviting space on 53rd Street that is super convenient to the subway. I take the E to 50th. I feel like I am getting quality services at prices that are fair. (I have paid a lot more for a lot less!) Anyway.... I just wanted to give a big shout out to my peeps at TJ's. I love the salon, I love the people and I think they are all....""pretty cool!""

I just left Timothy Johns and had the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER in my life!! First of all, the person who booked my appointment told me it was for 12:30pm, but when I listened to my message confirming the appt time...they said 12:15pm. I simply called the salon to let them know there was an error and it was supposed to be at 12:30pm, and the receptionist was extremely rude. Instead of apologizing for the mixup, she kept saying well it's in the computer as 12:15pm, so they are right and I am wrong. After getting tired of battling this with her, I told her I would do the best i could to be there at 12:15pm (their error), and she still did not apologize and said if I was late they might not be able to see me bc this was causing a problem. This all before i even walked into the place. So i finally arrive after rushing to get there. I was greeted to my stylist (Emily or whatever her name is), and she had a total attitude from the get go. I was told on the phone when making my appt that I would get a consult before the color and that Timothy would be standing there to give his advice. Of course that did not happen. When i tried to explain the color I wanted and even brought in magazines to show the color/type of highlights I wanted...Emily seemed very annoyed and I could tell she didnt want to see any pictures or listen, she was just trying to rush through. So she was starting to apply color on my hair, I pulled out a sandwich and had it on my lap and even mentioned i was getting ready to eat while she started. I was suprised that she then took the crate of foil and abruptly placed it on my lap and said ""hand these to my as I foil"". I was really taken aback that at a 5 star salon they actually ask all their clients to hold the foil on their laps and expect you to hand them each foil as they go along. We are the clients and we are paying for a service, it makes it very hard to sit there and eat/relax/read if you are expected to be handing your stylist foil every other 30 seconds. My stylist continued to be annoyed with me an when I was done eating, abruptly put them back on my lap. She was very rough with me and I could tell aggitated the whole time. When it was time for my blowdry, I asked to use the bathroom and again she huffed and seemed so annoyed. During the blowdry I could see that the hairs around my bangs were very dark and i specifically asked for them to be ""lighter"" around my face. I asked her if she could touch them up and she got very upset, said ""she did what I asked and I was wrong"". She said she wouldnt redo them but I kept insisting bc I was unhappy, so that is when Timothy stepped in. Wow, talk about a rude/nasty/unprofessional owner. He started yelling at me that she was right and did what I asked, and how dare I tell ehr I was unahhpy and that I was ""telling her how to do his job"". then he started saying I was throwing gum wrappers all over the floor?? It was just pure ridiculousness at this point. All the customers were staring as he was yelling, embrassing himself. Gumwrappers?? I had NOO idea what he was even talking about?!?! then he yelled at me to go 'sit over there""..and was being verbally abusive. He said my hair was more like a ""color correction"" than highlights. He was the rudest man I have ever dealt with in my life, and this was the owner?? There is NO winning at this salon. Their customer service is HORRIBLE, and if yoyu dare say that you are unhappy...you are yelled at in front of customers and ridiclued. I have never experienced anything like it in all my life! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I could not WAIT to get out of there. I did not leave a tip and I intend to stop payment on my services. My hair color looks awful, and they are the RUDEST and most unprofessional staff I haveever worked with in all my life. WORST EVER!!

I travel through NYC having moved to Europe and usually rely on friend's recommendation. This time, I went with Citysearch and other online reviews and I am so glad I did. I had Elena as a cutter and LOVED her. I have long hair and usually am so worried with new places and cutters. She put me at ease, gave me a great cut but without too much off, just enough to give shape but not to rob it of the length. They use Moroccan products (brandname) which I love and the price was not outrageous. I had a shampoo, condition (deep), cut and blow dry with all the usual added and it came to $104. Not bad for NYC! Also everyone and everything about the place just screams warmth. I am hopeful all the good reviews don't change what makes it special!

I have had enough bad haircuts in my life to be nervous most times I walk into a salon. I read the reviews and got enough good feedback that I decided to see Timothy himself. I brought a picture in which he appreciated and he took the time to really talk to me about my hair and what I wanted. I felt like I was in good hands and pleased with the outcome of my haircut. I do believe you never know a great haircut until months later, once it's grown out. It's been a week and so far so good. Thanks Timothy for your time, expertise and friendliness.

I truly love spending my precious mommy time at Timothy John salon. The service is always amazing and they treat everyone like a celebrity. I am a stay at home mom who needs to feel her best when out in the neighborhood. Dawn made me feel like a super model. My color is so natural and she was able to cut my unruly hair so I can easily manage a style everyday. Thanks Dawn for making me feel beautiful.

I feel so fortunate to have found Timothy of Timothy John's Salon. Timothy changed my hair from bleach blonde to a beautiful natural blonde that everyone is going crazy over. I gave me a new style without cutting all of my fried hair off, and I feel beautiful.
The salon is charming, clean, and everyone was very welcoming.
I found Timothy John's Salon from the Best of Citysearch page, and it is true! Timothy is the Best!
